bogwalker
Hill country bear hunters, Have you tried setting up your bait lower and your stand/ blind etc. up on the hill? Do the bears circle high before coming in to the bait?
cherokee
bogwalker, I had a bait site once that was at the bottom of a steep ridge. The bait was hit and the trails showed the bear coming in straight from the lowland. It was a good setup as the ridge bordered a field and I don't believe the bear ever circled to get to the bait. I did not hunt this site as I had another one that was hot. Had I hunted this stand I would have setup on the ridge and had a 75 yard shot to bait station. cherokee
It was a perfect setup. I might revisit that site this Fall but it is a little out of my driving range from the rest of my stations.

Boar
Cherokee that sounds exactly like my riverbottom stand, The spine or ridge drops of in the dry river bottom an my stand is right at the base of the ridge an bear canot circle behinde me as the come from the thick forest lowland of the drive riverbed, Its the spot on the spot. WhiskeyWoods
True Arrowhead is good, then you have the valleys of the SE Minnesota, they have some hills( I've pounded a few out turkey hunting!) and then there are areas of central MN that have some hills and Dips. My deer shack around the Itasca State Park area has some good ridges and bottoms....

I was not speaking of a specific region.
