Old fishing rod display

I just received my Grandpa's old fishing rod that is quite dear to the family. Has anyone out there made a display for something like this? Looking for any and all ideas, pictures would help out greatly!

+1 for the shadow box.. make it a little taller than necessary and decorate it with some old wooden garage sale lures, and a picture of Grandpa. small led lights along the front inside corner at the top would make fantastic "mood" lighting for the piece and not overheat the box. Best of luck, post a pic when you get something done.

I have my Grandpa's rod and reel sitting on a couple nails on a wall at the cabin. I have a lure from each Grandpa and one from an uncle hanging from it. I like it - very cabin-ish. For me a shadow box is a little much but maybe if the rod and reel are worth a lot of money.

here's a start to mine, my Grandads Hurd rod,reel,case. My plan is to have my Dad carve a lake scene in the background on the light colored basswood.

I posted something similar in the Lure/Rod-Making forum a year ago, when I got all of my grandfather's old lures. Those guys posted a bunch of good recommendations.
