Humminbird 788ci Shuts Off

KLR

Question

I have a new Humminbird 788ci and the last couple of times that I have been out the unit has been randomly shutting off. This typically happens when the outboard ('07 Merc 90H 4-stroke) is running. There is no consistencey to when this happens or how often. I did not have this problem the first 2 months after installation, but now it appears to happen more frenquently each time I am on the water. Has anyone experienced this same problem, and/or have any ideas. I have updated all of the firmware to the most current version. Thanks.

I also suspect a voltage drop, if it falls to 10 V it will shut itself down.

A loose fuse of connection may do it. Monitor the battery voltage and see if it drops or is low just prior to it shutting down.

A sudden drop or spike may be hard to catch, but a drain or bad battery should show up on the voltage monitor.

Set the voltage alarm to 10.5 V as to alert you of it getting low, that should help point out a bad battery situation.

Yes and Yes. Your power button is stuck down. Use your finger nail to pop it back out. I know it sounds stupid but I spent an hour on the phone with customer service while I was on the lake and almost wrote off using the unit for the rest of my big yearly trip after they had said "just send it in" when I noticed it. I'm actually suprised more people don't have this issue.
