Not a bad unit and very user friendly. I recommend you do some homework on the Dakota and Oregon lines first.

Compare the user options in the 10, 20, and the Oregon line first. See what best fits your needs to achieve the best overall value.

With the TOPO DVD and power cord included, it is a preaty darn good deal at $200.

The Dakota 10 does not accept any SD card and has internal memory of 850mb. That will hold the Lakemaster Minnesota CD, but that is about it. If you want any other maps on there then you would have to replace the current maps. I would personally get something with a SD card capability. I have the Oregon 200 and I love it and it cost me just over $200 on an auction site. But be careful of that because Garmin does not warranty anything from auction sites. Either way, you can find a Dakota 20 or something from the Oregon line. Or maybe you would want to look at the older 60cs. It is getting discontinued really soon but it has been the "standard" for a long time and is around the $200 dollar range.

Keep an eye out for the 76 series also

The new 78 series is out and is thought to replace the 76 series Maybe? .

Just like the 62 series may replace the 60 series.

Side note

Garmin is coming out with some new great stuff leaving the rest of the manufacturers in the dust and this is exciting to watch to see what they will introduce next.

The 78 series looks awsome I was talking to a rep about it and he was saying the scrolling speed across maps is unreall compared to anything out on the market. I told him I was thinking of upgrading from my 76 to the 78 or the oregon. He said the 78 is prety much the same as the Oregon as for features with few extra features for the sportsman but has a smaller screen and is button controled. He prefered the 78 over the oregon. Gotta check that unit out, its sweet! And it still floats.

I also suspect that the popular Garmin Rhino 530 HCx will see a makeover, very soon. It has been a big seller and is very popular and dependable. Since it has also went into discontinued status as the 76 has, I think it will be tooled up to be much the same as the new 78 but with the classic Rhino Radio/GPS integration features.

If so, I'll be upgrading my 530 HCx Rhinos as I have fond them the best tools for my needs overall. I hope they make it able to float this time out, but with the larger ION battery pack in the Rhino, that may be difficult to achieve...we will see I guess.
