Diago
1957I used to exclusively fish for musky's, but havent fished them much in recent years. My favorite fish is Largemouth or Smallmouth Bass. If you are interested in Musky's we have a lot of good lakes in my area and I could put you on some good spots.Let me know what dates you are considering and maybe we can do some fishing together.Jim
x1957x
where do you hunt in manitoba? do you hunt alot in s.d. and where at . yes i am interested in doing something. thanks jeff
Diago
Jeff,I hunt in many different areas in Manitoba, depending opon the water and the flight pattern for that year. I late season Pheasant hunt in western south dakota. It is hard for me to get away in the fall, but my summers are free. Why don't you consider a smallmouth and Musky fishing trip this July or August. Jim
x1957x
Jim, whats the best way to get ahold of you? without having to post my ph.#. yes we could do something and maybe if you want to come and hunt, we can figure out the other details. I am in the process today of going to scout some new spots for the up coming fall hunt. The ideal thing would be to have 5-6 different fields to hunt. We will bang some birds, (guarenteed.) jeff
x1957x
( LAND DR) kyle, Yes I am interested in that! I think that it would be totally awsome. Going scoutin today to find some fields. Let me know. -jeff-
LandDr
1957Sounds like you have some good offers.I am just looking for opening day...Sunday they usually go off on their own or some may ask to stick around. It is more of a social and political event than anything. I hosted the first event the year that it passed and have hosted an even every year since just to get these folks together to show our appreciation for voting in the dove season and to make sure they keep voting for it if it ever comes up again with opposition...which it certainly will. We also have Cabelas sponsor it so they provide us with the annual collector hat and some dove decoys...just a lot of fun...but it is work for us as well since there is an agenda.Email me at my email above and we can discuss more. I would like to get the invites out by the end of the month and need to commit to a location. Thanks!
x1957x
you know what, they are politicans and want to have a 10 min. ordeal. they have to stay the 1ST DAY AND IF THAT IS ALL IT TAKES SO BE IT ! BUT IF THEY ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO STAY , they wont be disapointed. We dont hunt just one field. ---jeff----

LandDr
1957Not that kind of political deal at all...these are hunters and they will hold their own. They voted the dove bill in because they hunt as well. They will sit from morning until lunch...a little break...and then back out again if limits are not reached. In the past I have set groups up on several fields, water holes, gravel pits, etc...just as you have mentioned with hunting several fields. A lot of fun.It is certainly not a big political meeting...that would be no fun! It is more of celebrating the dove season, getting some good press about the dove season and to support the outdoor opportunities we have and enjoy in MN.We meet early AM with coffee, juice, rolls and introductions as well as review of hunting dos and don'ts and hunting locations. Cabelas hands out some items as well and then out into the field. We meet back at noon for a grill out or lunch at a local establishment...then back out into the field (can change up groups and locations). We again meet back for super to grill out or eat at a local establishment. Then everyone either heads back or some stay over if there is an opportunity to hunt the next day.Very casual...but a lot of fun...and a great way to promote the outdoors. You interested in co-hosting and should we plan it? Email me if we should move forward. Thanks!
x1957x
hi, I just got back from the extension office here in worthigton. want to get the names of all the farmers that are raising small grains in wgtn. He is going to supply me with a list and get back with me. to answer the question, yes i am interested. Just tying up the lose ends.Got to look at every field and decide which ones I want to concentrate on. what days are you looking at as far as hunting? I think the earlier part of sept. would be the best before they migrate south. ----yous trully - jeff-
LandDr
JeffYou have a few offers on the table so you will have to use names to reference. As far as my event, I am just looking at Sept. 1st (opener) and the following day if anyone wants to stay...I know a few will want to stay.I would probably stick around as well...I can bring my boat if there is any good night fishing in the area. When I have had the dove hunt up here, I often take a few guys out on Minnewaska for some shallow walleyes to top the day off.Keep me posted.Kyle
x1957x
Dont know what you mean as far as names. I could shuffle some things around thouhg and make it work. Also, we have some pretty shallow lakes here, although sometimes after the lake turns over it does get good though. I have a fishing boat and my son that is going to help has one. If the bite is on it wouldnt hurt to bring yours. what all does cabelas supply? My thoughts are that if I get 2 or 3 good fields going that we could split up, though sometimes if you have 2 or 3 groups on one 30 to 40 acre field it seems to keep the doves flying better. It should be good either way.... let me know if you think that there is a possibility of wanting to go to a couple different fieds and how many guys. thanks again-----jeff---
LandDr
I mean other names as the other people on this forum that want to swap a hunt with you.We would definately split up groups with a guide per group...you with one, your son with another, myself with one, etc.I also like to set up different types on hunting scenes...we can discuss that later.Cabelas usually provides some dove decoys and collector hats for the event.I will get the invite going. Give me an email at [email protected]Thanks!Kyle
x1957x
landdr-- The only people that I have commited to is a older retired genleman from Grand Rapids. That wont be until after your done. The dove hunting stays good at least the 1st 3 weeks or until it gets down in the 40ish at night.Sounds good to me, we will plan on the 1st of sept. Do they supply wing motion decoys or what kind ? I guess that this way I have an idea of what I will need to take out this many party's. I know one thing for sure, that it will be a good time providing the weather cooperates. I work partime at a Holiday Inn express and could get some dis. rooms possibly then. no promises on that though seeing how it is Labor Day weekend. Let me know what the next steps to make this work are and what I need to do . ----jeff--
LandDr
Excellent!Cabelas usually gives each person a box of 4 or 6 decoys (can't recall how many were in a box). These are just the clip on decoys...not spinning wing. We have found that these work just fine for the opener. You really don't have to bring anything...just scout the sites and help with setting up some hunting stations. And of course help with the introduction, guiding and what we want to do for lunch and supper. It is a lot of fun. The very first year, the year the dove season got voted in, we held the event out by Glenwood...harvested 74 doves. We cleaned up and the chef at Torgy's on The Lake cooked them up for us...7 skewered doves each over a bed of wild rice and cooked vegetables on the side...with seating overlooking Lake Minnewaska. Wow! It was fantastic!See what you can do with the discounted rooms...might be 10 to 20 people so 5 to 10 rooms. What is your email? Thanks! x1957x
kyle I will be right on that room deal and get back to you. Um, dont know though about the clip on's. maybe? cant really tell ya. never used them and dont know where we would clip them on? Never know though. x1957x
Kyle. rooms are usually 139.00 a nite for a suite ( double person room) with a fridge and so forth. The manager said he could do 109.00 a nite. Let me know what you think about this. may be how many rooms? I am positive we will bust some seios doves! i'm 53 and still think that there is nothing better. ___- jeff--
x1957x
Rooms are 139.00 a nite usually and he said that he would discount them to 109.00 a nite for a suite room. That aint to bad considering a hot breakfast in the morning. Dont know though if they will have time to use it though. Do you want me to check with a farming frien and see if we could host a dinner, so forth at his farm if its close to where we are hunting. --jeff--
LandDr
Are there some other hotels around as well that we can check on pricing? Seems like were should be able to get something in the $60 to $80 range as well. ??Hosting a dinner is a nice option...gives everyone a chance to relax in an easy environment after the long day. Hunting clubs or camps are good to work with as well. What is your email so we can discuss via email instead of the forum. Thanks!
