Lowrance lms 332c

ducker

Question

I was out by the boat tonite and I heard my Lowrance going nuts. It was flashing and would not shut off until I unplugged the power. Plugging back in and holding the power button off for 10 seconds did nothing. In was in the storage area in the Pro V and we had 6 inch rains over the weekend but it did not seem to have gotten wet. Assistance please.

Your power cable harness may have gotten wet, be sure the ends drain and dry well and try again once it gets some air. Same with the input on the unit, be sure it is dry and clean.

Your line voltage is critical....Once she fires up, check the voltage in on the display and see if it is up to par or weak. Anything near 10.5 Volts is weak and will cause problems in booting up. If she will not start, check the voltage at the pins, and at the fuse link, to see what you have coming in to the unit.

Low voltage can cause the software in the unit to hang up too, or it may attempt to reboot over and over, or not boot up fully and/or hang or crash.

If it developed a brain fart from the whole rain/moisture a thing you may need to do a system reset on the 332 to get it back on track...as in Press Zoom in + Zoom Out + Power on all at the same time...and allow it to boot up on it's own.

I'm not sure your problem has anything to do with the rain. It could, but this is a common problem for these units. Usually when mine does this, I can just unplug the power cord to prevent it from happening while in the garage. If it happens on the water when you are trying to run the unit however, I have found that doing a soft reset will solve the problem.

I will say that I believe the advise Ed gave you is for a hard reset which will cause you to lose all waypoints. I have had luck solving the problem with a soft reset which will not cause you to lose anything other than preference settings such as your screen display options. Going from memory I believe you hold the pages button down as you power up to do the soft reset. Someone let me know if that is not correct. I just don't want to see you do a hard reset unless absolutely necessary.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't think the rain had anything to do with the issue you are having. The problem is most likely is with the key pad or ower button inside the unit itself. There has been many post on the web with this issue on those and many other units.

How do I know??

My 510c is or was doing the same thing. The screen would flash from bright to dim to dimmer. Then it would turn itself off and on. Tried the resets and it would work for maybe a half a day and then start doing the same thing. Maybe you will get lucky and the reset will help.

I had to send mine bact to Lowrance and was told it had a bad key pad. Since the unit is no longer made I had to pay $$$ to have them send me a newer unit. The unit is on order but may take up to 3 months to get my replacement unit.

Hope the reset helps, if not you will be on the phone with Lowrance to return your unit for repair or just buy another. Depending on the repair cost, you will need to make the call on how you want to go. If you decide to have them repair-replace the unit the new one will only come with a 6 month warranty.

Wish you the best with your issue,

Mike
