Mini tiller question for small engine guys

I bought a 4 cycle craftsman mini tiller from sears that was a returned item, didn't come with a manual. I used it twice, ran well, but it did die on me once. After the last use, I checked the oil and it appeared low, so I filled it, maybe over filled it, laid it down and some oil was dripping out. Started it up and it smoked for awhile and then started to kick some oil out of the exhaust--what is next for me, besides my induction into the idiots hall of fame....... again!!!!

Odds are very good if you go to the Craftsman web site you will find a link to manuals...most do. Then you can print it and look over the important stuff you should know prior to going ahead.

First check the oil level again on level ground. Pay close attention to the level required on the dip stick. If over filled drain to proper operational level.

I also recommend cleaning the plug before you try again, just in case it got fowled up when overfilled. Replace the plug if it looks bad. If it is a relatively new unit, cleaning should suffice for the plug.

Lots of small 4 cycles can only be laid down on certain sides too so check for that. Before checking the oil give it time to drain back to the crankcase.
