1946 pike description

Was looking at a 1946 Websters dictionary and the description for a pike is as follows:

"An elongate, voracious, spiney-finned food fish often four feet long;"

Don't see too many that size any more.

Shame, too. At least it's popularity as a food fish has declined enough that they're plentiful - just not 4'. I'm hoping to break 30" this year.

You guys ever seen the monster Pike in Ireland?

They hunt them with pitch forks in the Spring when their fields flood--They swim in the Lochs and some of them are reportedly over 50lbs.

Let's see, Medium weight Rod, 8lb test line...
