Another pool question

Ryan_V

Question

So I have my new 18' X 48" intex pool set up. I added the saltwater system to it. I filled it with my well. I added the salt and ran the filter pump for the required 24 hrs, then ran a cycle with the saltwater system. My water is still pretty green, do I need to do something, or just set the system to go normally and it'll clear up on it's own...if so how long does it usually take?? I should also mention, i did do the stain and scale out when filling the pool as recommended in my last pool thread.

I'm going to let someone else answer this one. I havent had green water. It's possible that you may need to some other chem to initially clear it once it's filled - because of well water?

IF youre near a pool store - grab a cup of the water and bring it in. They'll analyze it for you and tell you how to fix also.

if u did the stain and scale and let it run for 24 to 30 hours before the salt water system u should of been ok or u have really bad well water for metals...have u ever taken a outside water sample in to get checked for metals and see what it was...now if u did the stain and scale and then started the salt water system up rite away there may have not been enough time for the stain and scale to work 4 u.....usually green or brown water is what happens when the well water metals react with the chrlorine in the water.. if u take ur water in make sure u take it out of an outside water faucet not from inside the house as im sure u have a water softener going

I did the stain and scale, then added the salt and let the pump run for 24 hours before turning on the saltwater system.

Can I just shock the pool, or would that mess with the saltwater system???

sounds like u added the stain and then rite away added the salt and turned it on and it produced chlorine...that could be your problem stain needed to be put in first then circulated for at least 24 hours before anything else is done...once the pool has changed color i dont think there is anything u can do to get it bck to normal but i could be wrong and that would be a ? for a pool place ament or pool time here in st. cloud

the salt system really is the cats meow – but only once your pool is cleared. I guess I was lucky, my water looked clear to begin with. It sounds like you have a lot of metal/scale or maybe even algae in your water.

Best best: call Tim at the Hutchinson fireplace/pool store should be able to help>>>> the store name rhymes w/ Barley. 5 minutes and he can probably tell you exactly what to do.

There is a device that filters metals out when filling the pool. It’s about $60-80, is magnetic and makes well water about 99% clear right off the bat. Much easier than fooling around w another batch of s scale/stain remover for a 4 days and changing/cleaning the filter so much. If all fails, you can use this and just start over/refill.

But call the pool shop and tell ‘em what’s going on. They’ll help!

isn't the salt system supposed to take care of everything??? It was my understanding that you hooked it up to whatever water you had in the pool and let 'er fly!!! I'm getting pretty frustrated trying to deal with this.

bart, I don't know what store you're talking about.....I looked but can't find a pool place in hutch. I'd love to call him!!! I had talked to a guy with a pool like mine, well water. His looked 4 times worse than mine did. he said all he does is turn on his saltwater system, and within 2 days it's clear.
