Reformat Question

Recommended Posts

I'm not the most computer saavy guy, but I not clueless, either. Here's my situation:

We recently bought a new laptop to replace an aging desktop. The desktop still works fine, it's just a bit bogged down. So, my plan is to reformat it and keep it going for browsing the net and such.

We've got Qwest DSL with a Motorola combination modem/wireless router. It's hardwired to the desktop right now.

Will the wireless still work if I unplug the modem/router from the desktop? It seems like I can get to the control panel through the laptop, so I am guessing I will be okay there. I just wasn't sure if it needed to be hardwired to a computer in order for it to work.

Also, I can't recall if I had an installation disk from Qwest (and if I did, I have no idea where it is). Will I need one, or will I be able to get up and running without a disk on the desktop after my reformat?

Thanks,

Ryan

I used the disk the first time and I think that all of our computers have been reloaded since then and I have never found a need to use it since. If you do find a need to get back into the modem all you have to do is put 192.168.0.1 into the address of your browser and hit enter and you should be talking to your modem.

Yes the Laptop will work just fine on its own with-out the PC being hooked up.`

And you more than likely won't need the Quest software to re-hook up the PC after the re-format. If you do you can easily find it online or have them send you a disk.
