Sharing maps with bow and console graphs

whitebassman

Question

Hi all.

I just picked up my new boat and have a question already!

I have a HB 998c SI graph on the console, and a HB 788ci on the bow. Both are linked with humminbirds Interlink module.

1) I have one Lakemaster chip, and I expected both graphs to show the lake maps, but only the one graph with the chip in it will show the lake map. Is that how it is? Can I duplicate the Lakemaster card with an empty SD card, or do I need to get a second Lakemaster chip? (That would be really dumb if I had to.)

2) The dealer installed the electronics, and the console graph does not seem to have GPS set up. I looked at the incoming wires, and 3 out of the 4 are there. The GPS cord is missing. Again, is it suppose to be like that? Or is the GPS cord running to the Interlink module, as there are inputs for GPS, Graph 1, and Graph 2. My console graph does not show water temperature, and only showed speed and map when I got the Interlink cable connected (it was loose to begin with).

So many questions, but I feel that it is missing something, as I expected the console graph to have GPS working. Fortunately the bow graph has internal GPS, but this is a new boat and setup straight from the dealer, and I want it right to start with. Any thoughts???

I should have thought the dealer would have gone over all of that with you, if they did not, I would go back and have them "deliver" the boat properly. You should also have the books for your electronics which should answer your questions.

Good luck.

1)Sorry to say, but no, Maps are not shared between units. Everything else is. You will need another card. Personally I go with one Lakemaster and one Nav.. that way I can see both and decide which is more accurate for that lake.

2) your units will share one GPS sender, so it will only need to be hooked up to the interlink. Once hooked to the link you should get temp and speed ect.

Deitz correct me if I'm wrong please....but since the interlink will stores/backup all weigh points....won't they both share the same points through the Interlink... but not share the secure mapping data from the 988? So his 788 should show/share the same weigh points stored on the 998c?

Ed- I can only tell you what works on my units.. I have 2 997's.. and yes, when linked.. all waypoints show up on both units.. If you go over a spot, you can mark it on one unit and it will instantly show on the other as well.. but no map data.. I need separate chips for each unit.

Thanks Deitz. I needed some expert opinion from you guys. I do see both waypoints. But no temp on the console graph. I will have to delve into the manual more to see if i can make it show. So far it works great and I am starting to learn how to read the side imaging, but that ipilot and the spot lock feature is awesome! It allowed me to stay with a school of crappies and me and my wife were catching them left and right!

I could be wrong on the temp thing.. it may be as easy as you not having that turned on as one of your on screen prompts?

Yep. Go into the menu and look for digital readouts or something like that. You will then be able to pick from a few choices of what you want to see.

On another issue, is it possible to copy the Lakemaster chip onto another SD card? I know this may border on the issue of legality, but hate to pay another $120 for another chip for the second graph.

It is a Lakemaster MN chip for HB.

I purchased both the units I have with the built in maps. I also have chips for each unit for the special mapping like the Rainy Lake and LOW's.

No. I do not believe one can copy a chip to a card.

Its kind of a bummer but I also have some Lakemaster chips for my H20 but they will not work in a HB. I knew that when I got the HB units as it is stated they take HB specific chips.
