98 Sub rear air

Recommended Posts

I have a leak in the AC line to the rear a few inches from where the rear hoses connect along the frame. Can I unhook the rear lines and cap the high and low fittings at the frame instead of the recommended and spendy under-the-hood method suggested by radiator/AC guy? My alternatives at this point are to replace the lines with OEM (four lines instead of two) or try a compression fitting to bypass the leak.

I agree, when it is hot outside, and you are flying down the highway at 70, that compressor is pumping 300+ psi, almost positive any home repair will leak, if not blow apart.

If you are still looking for something to convert it to front A/C only, I just did this today with an A/C job the same as what you want to do.

O'Reilly Auto Parts has a kit that includes two plugs for the lines to the rear. The connections that you are going to cap are on the passenger side of the engine compartment just below the dryer.

Part# for the kit is: OTH-691

Vendor# is ATM9699

Transfer Number is: 11166188

Kit includes two plugs(one for high side and one for low side), both o-rings, a decal to let any tech know that the rear is no longer in use, and to adjust refrigerant capacity accordingly.

It covers 96-99 Tahoe/Suburban trucks

Very nice kit to do the job without getting all new lines to convert it to front only.

You might be able to bring this part number to any of the other parts stores to see if they can get it for you.
