IFallsRon
I have a leak in the AC line to the rear a few inches from where the rear hoses connect along the frame. Can I unhook the rear lines and cap the high and low fittings at the frame instead of the recommended and spendy under-the-hood method suggested by radiator/AC guy? My alternatives at this point are to replace the lines with OEM (four lines instead of two) or try a compression fitting to bypass the leak. Big Buck Buster
You could try it, but with the pressure on the high side getting over 200 psi, I wouldn't trust it. Why don't you convert it to a front A/C only. The high and low side lines for the front only isn't that expensive.
Scott K
I agree, when it is hot outside, and you are flying down the highway at 70, that compressor is pumping 300+ psi, almost positive any home repair will leak, if not blow apart.
Jeremy airjer W
Yup, just get the front air only high and low side lines and your good to go. The reciever drier may be different as well.
Big Buck Buster
If you are still looking for something to convert it to front A/C only, I just did this today with an A/C job the same as what you want to do.O'Reilly Auto Parts has a kit that includes two plugs for the lines to the rear. The connections that you are going to cap are on the passenger side of the engine compartment just below the dryer.Part# for the kit is: OTH-691 Vendor# is ATM9699Transfer Number is: 11166188Kit includes two plugs(one for high side and one for low side), both o-rings, a decal to let any tech know that the rear is no longer in use, and to adjust refrigerant capacity accordingly. It covers 96-99 Tahoe/Suburban trucksVery nice kit to do the job without getting all new lines to convert it to front only. You might be able to bring this part number to any of the other parts stores to see if they can get it for you.BBB
