Red October Tubes vs Jimmy

Recommended Posts

Are these lures fairly similar in the way they throw ? Completely different? Worth getting one of each? I've never really fished anything like them before. My fishing partner seems to be sold, even though he hasn't thrown one before. Was just looking for some firsthand experience with these lures before I make a purchase or two.

I am not familiar with the red october tube, but the titan tube (assuming they are similiar) is more of a gracefull jig, where the jimmy is a soft body erratic jerkbait.....I have casted the Jimmy several times with much impression on its wild movements in the water.....I think I have 3-4 different colors.....if they get hit it would probably not be a follow then figure 8 hit, they will probably smash it where ever they find it first.

I'll take a Red Oct. tube over a jimmy any day. You can easily add a reaper tail to a RO tube and come out way cheaper than buying a jimmy.

Tubes are my favorite bait in June in MN. I have more confidence in them on opening weekend than any other lure I have. They have produced in many different conditions in early season, new weeds, shallow sand and over deep water.

I think they are better hookers than a bulldawg and are a more versatile bait due to the fact that you can change the internal harness easily for different weight and hook combos.

I too am a big fan of the Red October tubes. I have one Jimmy and will probably not get another one...I have a dozen red octobers and keep replacing them when they are all chewed up.

John...didn't I slide the net under a dandy June fish for you that ate a Red October??? wink

I seem to remember that event happening Brett, maybe lightning will strike twice this year??

I'll be fishing twisted tubes this year, those are going to be great baits as well. The model with the 2 single hooks in it should be very weedless, already have a couple of places in mind to them out on.

John, everything I've seen and read suggests those twisted tubes won't work at all. If you want to dump them off on me to make some room for more effective baits, feel free. wink
