Mobile laptop charging

How can I charge my laptop while in a remote campsite? I have a 12v spotlight outlet in the boat, can I get some sort of 12v laptop charger?

Yep inverter works or depending on the laptop you may be able to get your hands on a 12 volt charger, which would be a nice addition to your laptop for charging in the car or truck.

I have a 12 volt adapter for my Dell but it will NOT charge on 12 volts, it will only maintain the battery level.

Most laptops are more than 12V so the you would need a specific power supply to boost the voltage to charge.

Now that I have the power adapter in front of me, the power input is 13.8V and the output is 19.5V. As I said before it won't charge your battery but I have never left it plugged in while the computer is shut down so it may charge at that point.

I have a Gateway Netbook in the truck, with an adapter that plugs into the cigarette lighter.

Might want to run to Best Buy, or at least google whatever the brand of your laptop is and car adapter and see what comes up.
