Water intake problem - 50hp Yamaha 4-stroke

I'm not getting any stream of water at all from the cooling water pilot hole. If I hook up a hose to a muff at the water intake it shoots water out the pilot hole. If I have the motor in the water where it should draw it's own cooling water - nothing out the pilot hole. What does it sound like?

I'll throw out a weak "cracked, broken" water pump impeller or a partially clogged pilot hole passage.

Is the engine over heating that you know of?

I'll agree above.. probably broken water pump..doesnt sound plugged as you get water when you put pressure to it. How old is the motor and when was the last time you replaced the water pump?

Sounds like it is the impeller, got an apointment to find out for sure tomorrow.
