Flathead Blank?

Recommended Posts

Any suggestions?

I mostly shore fish so something longer and slower is desired. Preferably over 8' and 2 piece. No graphite musky sticks (I hate 'em for this purpose) - either glass or composite.

Anybody ever build anything similar?

Not a lot of options for 2 piece 8ft blanks heavy enough for flats.

Yep - I've noticed... but it is always good to see if anybody knew any I didn't.

The gator glass rod would probably be a great flathead rod - just not perfect for my needs

Al - the RDR Heavy 10' is currently at the top of my list of possibilities. Your confidence in it just reaffirms my suspicion that it would work. I did build a salmon rod for a friend on the 8'6" Med this fall. You'll probably be hearing from me this week.

Thanks guys!

The 8'6 I have from Midwest makes a great Sturgeon/Channel Cat rod, but underpowered for Flat (although I've caught some nice ones on it).

I would go with whatever Rushing suggests as he has put in the time shore fishing for flats and able to put them to the test on some big fish.

I know the blank Al from Midwest is talking about and it would fit the bill very well.

Do yourself a favor and call Al. He does know his stuff. Al has been in the rod building business for quite some time.

Al comes very qualified.
