chasineyes
Does anyone know if these work or are they a waste of money? I have some young maples that I was going to use them on.Thanks
Tom7227
Long discussion about them 3-4 months ago. Bottom line is there's a lot you can do that will be of more benefit to your tree. Water it, mulch around the base with organic material to keep the soil moist and cut back on the heat. The spikes are going to dump their load in a 12 inch circle and your tree probably has 3-4+ feet circle of roots already.
LwnmwnMan2
There's a belief that if you fertilize the yard, that same fertilizer is going to get to the tree roots. If you DO use the spikes, make sure you put them in the drip line, where the water drips off of the tree, and NOT right against the stump. loosegoose
I use them on my young trees every year until they are about 8" in diameter and I believe they do work.
