I have a terrible habbit of falling asleep while in my tree stands. Never fell out yet, but I did drop my gun once. Woke up without a gun and slowly looked down to see it stuck muzzle 1st into the dirt. Sheepishly climbed down and after unloading it, cleaned out the barrel with a stick. Shot my bear about 30 minutes after climbing back into the tree! I think I will pass on the mountain biking with a loaded gun, I already lucked out once! I have had a few bad experiences with the fish pole on a bike and can imagine the gun going about as well.

I did the MT bike/grouse hunt one season when my back was out. I was rehabbing on a stationary bike, couldn't stand for long so, I still got out & hunted. Got a few gift shots, they'd look right at you and cock their heads till you dumped the bike & shoulder your gun, then they flushed. About that time I'd be looking for my orange hat that went flying from the sling. Used a cheap 870 with a short deer barrel, chamber empty, 3 in the magazine. Never cared what others thought about it. If I were to do it again I'd use a girls bike also, for faster steadier dismounts.

Years ago I checked out the garage sales, and finally find an old 3 speed Schwinn girl's bike with that could accept larger tires. Got some big fat tires for it, painted it up nice and camo, and dubbed it the 'Tridge Cruiser.

Nice and comfy for pedaling for birds! Since the kids have grown up, the bike has hung in the garage. It sure made for some fun, allowing the kids to cover a lot of ground with me in spite of their short legs, and we got our share of birds.

Now that they are both heading off to college this fall, I might just pull that old bike down and give it a workout.

For those who seem concerned about the original posters safety, what if he were to mount a gun rack of some sort to the handlebars or some other part of the bike?

Like a shotgun turret? Change the front break lever into a trigger mechanism???? Wonder if the kick of a shot gun would jack knife the steering smile

It may be legal but why someone would even try something like this is totally beyond me.

To be honest, it's the craziest and one of the most unsafe things I have heard of.

A good reason why the state or DNR has to add new laws for people who will try and do something this unsafe.

I have to laugh as at times someone will say something and another will say, people would not do that would they? A great example right here. Keep the darn gun unloaded to save your own net or someone else.

Well this is something I have never done nor plan to, but it seems to me it could be done safely. As long as your gun is held securly a slow controlled bide ride isn't that crazy. I don't know what most people are picturing (blasting away shooting riding no hands). It sounds safer than a couple guys shooting out of an unstable duck boat. No one thinks twice about guided horse back elk trips. I'm not a horse guy so I know I would feel safer on the bike. I've fell down way more times walking cattails, brush and heavy cover than I ever have riding a bike. Only you know how you will be riding your bike and the quality of trails you will be riding on, good luck. If we went by some peoples idea of crazy the ice would never get thick enough to ice fish, cars would never have exceded the speed of a good horse, much less horses ever tamed and rode. We have people driving their fishing boats at 70 mph, snowmobiles at well over 100 mph, atv's flying around at 70 mph, but this guy is the crazy one. Good luck Brad.

I also gotta back up Brad. This idea isn't very crazy at all and I don't' understand why some of you think this is so unsafe. A loaded gun minus a shell in the chamber coupled with a safety being on...comparing that to running stop signs is crazy. The biggest risk in my opinion is scuffing up the firearm in the result of a crash. Hell even a loaded gun with the safety off things would have to go just perfect in order for the gun to fire (NOT condoning THAT btw). Factor in 2 forms of safety and your odds are better at being struck by lightning, twice.

We've all taken a spill on foot in tough brush...that's what the safety is for.
