Slip sinkers/bobber stop

Recommended Posts

I was watching a fishing show friday during the snow fall, and they were using Lindy Rigs with bobber stop and walking sinkers. They could easily adjust the length of their leader by adjusting the stop. I usually use a snap swivel with a rattle bead between the swivel and sinker and the length of the leader is as long as I tie it. Thought it was interesting.

Anyone familar/use this technique?

I have done this but still find myself putting on a swivel just because I hate the line twist. What I have done is put a swivel on at 5' and then the knot with a bead above that then my slip sinker. I am not really sure it worked all that much better in my case but I know that that type of method worked well out on the mud flat of Mille Lacs in the summer time when the fish were finicky.

@ toddb

Do you ever have problems with line twist using this particular setup? I've been looking for a more versatile configuration to adjust to different depths, speeds, etc but I've had problems in the past with line twist using removable sinkers and/or rigs with no swivel.

Thanks in advance!

You'll still want to use a swivel as always, you just put the bobber-stop/sinker above your swivel. The swivel will cause some sinking/sagging in your leader, so I like to use the smallest swivels that I can. This is a great way to adjust leader length w/o re-tying.

I rig the slip bobber, stops and such as normal. If I'm using a pinch on weight I tie a small barrell swivel to a 3' or so leader. Same if using a jig. This keeps the bulk of the line twist out.

I use this rig with a slip knot

It also gives you the benefit of being able to change size of weight quickly, without cutting line. You can get them from the big C

Toddb, where did you find this handy set up??
