RoosterR
Took the boat out for first time this year and noticed no water out of tell tale hole. Put new impeller in last summer. Checked tell tale hole free off dirt. Any ideas of what it could be or what to do next. Its an 84 mercury 35 hp
wishing for walleyes
Could you possibly have an insect plugging it?
harvey lee
Could be dirt, little pebbles or weeds somewhere. You name it and I have had it stuck in my motor. Its always possible that the impeller is again damaged. I put a new one in every season.
RoosterR
You are right Harvey Lee, the impeller is shot. Just took the lower unit off and sure enough it is bad. What causes them to go bad? Also, is there a reason the impeller is really stuck on the shaft, can't budge it at all.Is they a way to get it off, if i remember last summer it came right off. Thanks guys
Cliff Wagenbach
The housing that the impeller runs in may be bad. ??Did you run the motor at all before you put it in the water? If so, even a few seconds of running the motor while it is dry will destroy an impeller. Cliff
marine_man
I'm pretty amazed you chewed through the impeller in one season... do you do a lot of shallow water running where it could sucked up some mud or sand?Sometimes the impeller will get bound up a bit, but I've almost always been able to pop them loose with a small pry bar.marine_man
