Killing grass around my trees

Recommended Posts

I want to apply a herbicide around my trees so I will not hurt the bark while whip trimming. What can I use that will not harm the tree but will kill the grass? I am afraid that a Round-Up type product will get the tree also. Thanks for any help.

Round up (Glyphosate) won't hurt the tree, you need to apply it on the leaves of the plant.

The small amount you may get on the bark won't bother it.

If you're concerned, use a piece of plastic against the bark to block any overspray.

Round up works by removing the leaves of the plant, it doesn't get into the root system.

You can spray glyphosate on runners from plants and the runner will die back but the plant will live.

Round up does not move through dirt.

Glyphosate was actually created as a growth regulator, but soon became a total vegetation killer.

Thanks guys. I appreciate it. As far as using a barrier, yes I have. Hate to admit it but I am trying to get rid of using the weed whip. Too hard on my L5-S1!!!
