My buddy from Mankato comes up every year that he draws a tag. His first year, we shot a double opening morning. This morning we found ourselves nestled into the blinds where I've scouted for the last week. There was 4 of us, one with a tag. The rest of us won't pass up an invite to watch a possible turkey show, and they gave us one this morning. It started out with plenty of gobbling on the roost. Around 6:25 we had 2 jakes come in gobbling and ready to fight the strutting jake decoy. They both circled him and eventually one of them started spurring and pecking the decoy. Meanwhile 4 hens came out into the field in went right on by. There was still a lone thunderous gobble coming from direction the jake came in. So we had our fingers crossed that it might be a long beard. Finally after some seductive yelps and purrs, he showed himself! In the corner to our left there he stood, Brandon and I were in the blind on the opposite side, so we had the other guys informing us of his position. He saw the 2 jakes and the jake decoy and backed out of the field fast. That made our hopes plummet, but after some more yelps, he got fired up and came back after 5 mins. Luckily the jakes moved out away from the decoys. He began drumming and spitting 40yds out. He came in at a nice pace, and stood tall in full strut at 20yds and BOOM! One more memory for the 4 of us! We had 2 video cameras rolling and got some nice footage with differnt angles. We beat the rain by 5 mins. Tried out 2 new blinds, cause of the chance of rain this morning. They worked great and kept us dry. 23 1/2# 1.25" 10" beard Turkey for dinner tonight!! DSCN1134.jpg

Thanks for the nice comments. I heard on this forum that the urban turkeys were tough. Luckily the blinds did blend into the concrete and trucks. We were just west of shoreview! Wish we were still hunting today. Thats the only thing that is a bummer about turkey hunting, sometimes it goes to fast! My 5 days start on thursday, cant wait. Good luck to all that still have tags to fill.
