Carlos Avery WMA deer hunting questions

I plan to hunt at Carlos Avery WMA in season 2010 this year during archery in October and maybe firearms in November. My question is since the place is mostly swamps what areas can i expect to be more secluded and packs more deer? My teacher hunts there for duck and says around the northeastern part of stacy by the sunrise river pool he sees a few deer while duck hunting and that its more secluded unlike the southwestern parts of carlos were there are lots of people hunting. Can i just go buy a tag and license to deer hunt (archery and firearms) and just walk in any part of Carlos and hunt? (except the sanctuary DOI!) will the Carlos Avery border lines be marked? I use to live in Chisago and the school bus will drive along Ivy Wood Trail CR80 and along it i will see signs saying STATE FOREST LAND so is that Carlos?

as for parking were would i park?

If you hunted for deer there what did you think? liked about carlos? disliked about carlos?

Is this place even good for deer?

thanks for your time to answer my question

If you bow hunt or especially shotgun hunt Carlos, expect to have to walk a ways to get away from the people. The wetlands can help with this as a lot of people will not want to cross them. Get your rubber boots and scout early. There are a lot of deer in Carlos and they are used to hunters. The parking areas and easy walk in areas will be over run by small game hunters in October and shotgun hunters in November. Carlos is big enough to get somewhat away from many hunters for those who are willing to beat the brush and swamps and walk into some hard to get at areas.

I've done a little bit of muzzleloader hunting in NE Carlos. Not near as much competition from small game hunters, bowhunters, etc. this time of year. However, December hunting is typically not as comfortable and the weather weeds out the people. Seems like many people quit hunting after the November gun season. But the deer are still there!

I've found parts of Carlos poorly marked. Best bet is to get on the DNR HSOforum and go under WMA's. They have a Google Earth layer with the WMA boundaries overlain on aerial photos. Bring a print out of where you intend to hunt out in the field with you and you will be able to see the boundaries that way.
