Open water shorefishing

I love icefishing, but am getting sick of staring down a hole. Is there anywhere along the river in the cities where it is open due to dams, drainage etc. where one could shorefish? And if so, what would be the best way to go about doing so?

Down by the NSP plant in Newport. I haven't been there for a while, but the water is open at the drainage from the plant. They used to allow fishing down there. That would be on the St. Croix River. You might want to check the (St. Croix River)Forum.

fubar... don't you mean upstream from Bayport? Newport is on the Mississippi. The Alan King coal plant is on the St Croix -pretty good multi-cultural - - - I mean multi-species fishing there. Just don't walk away from your gear!

The coon rapids dam is a really good bet for right now. go to the east side and you will have better luck. walleyes, crappies, northerns, catfish, carp plus many others!
good luck! ><>
