after much ballistic and brand name research I ordered a new gun today. First new one I've had since 1983. I got the Wxby Vanguard Carbine in 7mm-08, 20 inch barrel and standard length of pull with a monte carlo stock syn stock. I wanted something between my Model 7 Remington .243 and my .270 & .06 This will put me between the 3 and I can go with 120/130 grain bullet. Pretty anxious to get a load worked up. I know others have recommended this caliber and would like to hear any feed back on how well they have grouped with favorite loads.

I have a Win model 70 Featherweight in 7mm-08. It is a sweet little gun, my daughter used it to shoot her first mule deer. We used Rem 140gr Core-Lokt bullets. I am sorry I can not give you the balistic information but my gun did shoot about 1" groups at 100yrds with the 2-7 scope and a crunchy trigger.

Sierra makes a 139 grain boat tail spitzer bullet that I've used for years in a 7x57. They expand well and don't fragment. In a 7-08 they should do even better. On white tails, mulies, and antelope, my sons and I have run up a lot of one shot kills with that slug.

I have two that my daughters shoot. A remington Model 7 and a 700 mountain rifle. We've shot Federal 140 gr balistic tip, Federal 150 gr soft points, Speer Nitrex 145 gr and have shot some Federal Trophy bonded bear claw round through it as well. All have grouped an 1 1/2 or smaller. They sure work well on deer. I've shot a few with these guns as well.

You're going to enjoy the gun.

right now my plan is to work up loads with Sierra 120, 130 and grain bullets with hopes I can achieve sub MOA with the 120's for deer and speed goats. I'm not a fan of the exoctic factory rounds nor am I a fan of anything over 150 grains. Now if I intended to hunt elk I'd go with Sierra 165 grain SBT in my .06. I'm lookin forward to getting starting working up the load for the 7mm-08. It's been close to 30 years since I have.

You'll love this caliber. Not really comparing apples to apples here, but I had the 7mm-08 in a handgun. The last time I had it at the range before I sold it, I put 4 rounds through a quarter sized area from 100 yards, of which 3 of those could've been covered with a dime.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
