2010 chevy equinox

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any first hand experience with one? My mother needs a replacement car and this one seems to foot the bill. I know it is a very new model (since the huge makeover). The MPG is out of this world, which she really likes. She drives about 35,000 miles a year, living out in middle of no-where, sometimes not seeing a plow for 3 days in the winter.

It seems like a logical choice. She does want a small suv style (cross-over) with the all wheel drive. She currently has a 2003 mazda protege with 200,000 miles and she has a colorado with 50,000 miles that she drives when the white stuff piles up.

Any others she should look at? MPG is very, very, important to her. It seems that nothing else that I have seen comes close in that category.

If it has a 3.4 liter and you plan on keeping it until the wheels fall off plan on replacing the head gaskets along with the intake gasket issues. I just put a used motor in one to the tune of $3,000. Other than that its a typical GM and expect the typical GM problems.

Airjer- I think the only two motor options are 2.4L four and a 3.0L six. I thought maybe GM turned the corner on these vehicles. I guess it will take a few years to figure that out.

The new Eqinox comes with either a 180 hp 2.4 four cylinder or a 264 hp 3.0 six cylinder. Both are new direct injected motors, and they are putting up impressive mileage numbers. They havent been around long enough to know much about intakes and head gaskets yet.

Buy who and how much money is slipped under the table. I can give the airjer and associates #1 rating to anyone but it doesn't mean anything if down the road they turn out to be deep dark hole you throw your money into! shocked I'm not jumping on any band wagon unless I see the long term results.

BTW GM has recalled 1.5 million cars for problems with the electronic power steering.........Finally. There have been 14 (from what I can remember) known accidents as a result of the failure. Never made more than a blip on the news radar?

I still don't see them as a company that wants to take care of there customers. That will take time but it certainly wouldn't hurt for them to start admitting there are wide spread pattern failure issues that they have ignored and passed the expense on to there customers.

Imagine that, a recall from one of the big 3 and nothing heard on the national news about it? I agree 100% with Airjer on this as well. GM says they have the best mileage and the best car in alot of their advertisements, but their past problems will probably be like their future problems. Once they put out a reliable product for a few years with a great track record, then "maybe" I'll start believing!

This is one of the first major issues that Toyota has had to deal deal with as far as the spot light. I agree that it is shady as far as how it is being handled on Toyota's side.

That being said Toyota has and continues to take car of there customers. Some of the ones I recall are the ball joint recall on the Tundras (voluntary), Good luck getting the big three to take care of there ball joint issues on there dime. Head gaskets, they took care of those on there dime. Motors sludging, they took care of those on there dime. one of the more recent is the oil supply line to the rear head, again there taking care of it on there dime.

How long did it take for Ford/firestone to admit there was a problem with the explorers? Did we forgive them. how many people where injured and killed over that?

How long did it take chevy to admit there was a problem with the fuel tanks in the old pick-ups. How many people where injured/died over that.

The domestic auto makers has a long history of stains. They also have a long history of of pattern failures that get ignored by the manufacturer both in taking care of there customers and finding a solution to the problem.

How many Fords burned to the ground because of Bad brake switches in the master cylinder before Ford recognized the problem and found a solution?

How long did it take ford to admit there was a problem with the 3.8 liter headgaskets?

How long did GM know there was problem with the intake gaskets on most of there engines yet they continued to build them the same way with the same parts. Better yet the introduced the 3.4 liter with the same design knowing full well it would fail. To top it off the 3.4 has a well know headgasket problem to boot.

These kind of things shouldn't fail as soon as they do. Other engines with similar engineering made by other manufactures don't have anywhere near the failure rate of these motors.

Why do we continue to buy vehicles from these companies?

Every auto maker is going to have serious issues at some point. To date none of them have dealt with them well!

After the cover up does Toyota have to start over and go a few years to make you a believer again, or doesnt this count?

I have never worried about one of the Toyota's I have owned yet and have never been let down, so why start now? They are THAT GOOD!
