cig butts

I'm on day 3 of not smoking and it isn't easy. Hubby quit 2 weeks ago. We always put our butts in a can or a pocket when out fishing. I'd find butts in the dryer every once in awhile, but at least they weren't in the Lake. I hope this works this time. I've quit many times before. Between the 2 of us we spent about $175.00 on cigs a month. I'm thinking this will make a real nice new camper payment.

This may sound a bit crazy, but...

How about a $.25 deposit per cigarette at the time of purchase? Then return the butts for a refund of that deposit. Guess what - 'butt litering problem solved. Anyone who wants to spend some time picking them up could make some nice pocket change. Not to mention more incentive for folks to quit, and getting them nasty things off our streets, walkways and other areas. This would be a good application for some of that money that was obtained via the smoking law suits....

Pick up a couple hundred of them, and you've got a tank of gas.... but thats another thread....

I would say what comes out of 2 stroke boat motors and goes into the lake & air is a bigger environmental hazard than cigg butts. Not saying chucking butts in the water is okay, but how can anyone who uses a 2 stroke vs a 4 complain? While we are at it, is there anyone who has a problem with me spitting sunflower seeds in the water?

I'm with you!! I don't agree with trowing smokes in the lake, out the window, or on the sidewalk, However it depends on why you dont want this to happen... if it is for the beutification of our enviroment OK i'm with yah, but when people start getting on smokers because its bad for our/they're health then its hipocrocy... More people die from car accident in the USA than Cancer linked to cig's...no one is telling us to stop driving. (I work for the only class II medical devise air filtration company in the world) People die every year from from breathing problems related to chemicals in the air ie,(you can buy Mountain fresh scented RAID!!!)(you know, RAID..the stuff that kills cockroaches..those bugs that they say can live through a nuclear war..this stuff kills them, hmm? then they put scent in it why? because they know we are going to breath it in!) but nobody is say stop using raid.....we drink in public then drive in public...yet no smoking in public? You see, its our choice to smoke, its your choice not to. SMOKERS dont throw your butts in our lakes and NON smokers don't try to tell me that we should stop for both our healths, unless you dont use a motor vehicle and have no sprays under your sink, because I breath the air you pollute to..and i'm OK with it as long as you are also..FAIR? It would be a pretty boring world if we got rid of all the risks!!

Monti Coach, it's people like you that cause real problems.

I could see if it was in your driveway and he threw the cig out. But it's a public road, and he has just as much right to litter it as anyone else. You on the other hand, have no right to enforce the law without a peace officer's license. I assume you don't have one.

I would love for someone to try and throw someting in my car while I'm occupying it.

I try to avoid the smoking-is-bad debate, even though I hound all my friends and relatives to quit. "Environmental beautification" is the greatest reason to not toss your butts. A close second stems from being a motorcycle rider. Ever catch a cherry in the neck doing sixty? Leaves a worse mark than a june bug!

I was the third car at a stop light and the car in front of me threw out his butt. I got out of my car went up to where he threw it picked it up and threw it back in his car and told him thats what his ash tray is for. He was about 16 and didn't have to much to say other than sorry. Don't know if still does it but like many of you it ticks me off when you look out the window at exit ramps and see all the garbage. Where do you suppose they learned it's ok to do it?

workinman,

That has to be one of the stupidest responses I have ever seen. Did you even think about the subject before you posted? I know its your god given right to be a pig, and throw anything anywhere but that doesn't mean you should do it. Get a life and a job, and only post stuff that makes sense!

workiman - very dumb move. It is very similiar to me watching people fis illegally, keeping catches illegaly, etc....I do not in anyway say anything to them, I may glare, but that is about it. I call DNR asap to inform them of the matter.
After calling DNR, I have seen them show up within an hour and problem solved.

Your asking for alot of trouble, becuaseif it were me in the car, I probably would have decked ya.

Alright, say the punk that threw the cig butt out the window was some crack addict with a .45 sitting next to him. How would you feel if he decided to test it out on you?

Now, we got a problem.

I would guess that every state has a number you can call when you see someone littering, I think the states set up numbers like that just to keep people like y'all from putting yourself in danger by pushing your beliefs and values onto others.

By the way, I smoke, I don't throw my cig butts out the window. I put them in an empty coke can and deposit the can in a proper receptacle when necessary. I also recycle. I don't throw trash onto the highways and byways. I also volunteer for an organization that is a sponsor in the "adopt a road" program.

How many of you can say that you volunteer your own time to go out and pick up trash along a highway? I would bet none.

Y'all would rather sit an whine about the subject because your too lazy to take proper action. And proper action is not reacting the way Monti Coach does. I'll bet if Monti Coach is in a bar/restaurant where smoking is allowed he probably has the gall to ask those that are smoking around him to kindly put it out. At which point someone would probably put on out on his forehead, and rightly so.
