Sales tax on used boat?

If you buy a used boat, motor and trailer all set up from a private party what do you have to pay sales tax on and when do you pay it?

You only pay for sales tax on the trailer when you register it in your name.

You would pay sales tax on the whole deal if you were buying from a dealer. Since you are buying from a private party, then only on the trailer as marine_man stated.

I would assume (AHEM) that the trailer is worth next to nothing....falling apart....but road worthy....just doesn't carry much value (AHEM). But I'm not suggesting anything!
