channel cats on open water

I dont fish for channels that much on lakes but I have caught them just not targeting them but this year I have a few lakes that I know of that hold some bigger kittys . My question is do they start to bite after ice out like the ones in the river or are we looking for a specfic water temp to get the ball rolling.

Thanks

i guess it would depend on the lake.....i am easily catching them right now on the sauk chain up shallow at dusk.... during the early spring they sit in their holes during the day and are not that interested in feeding, i also fish green lake in spicer for some biggn's but they generally don't become active in the spot that i know well into june, well after dark, and have absolutely no clue where they would be until then. would suppose most lakes have different patterns, and you have to be smart enough or in my case lucky enough to figure them out.

yeah right.....who knew! stumbled across them a few years back and if/when you find them they are big.....saw a picture of one that had to be close to or was a state record. i have caught a few in upper teens and one well over 20, but only for a two week period or so in june/july. spawning?

Hey pushbutton I fish green quite a bit for other species and have heard of people catching big cats out there. Always wanted to try for them but never knew where to start. Care to share any info, I understand if you don't. I heard they are in calhoun also.
