Storm Lake Fishing Reports

Recommended Posts

Well I just didnt know if you were close enuff that you go there or not. It was pretty slow. Jigs and minnows..amazingly enuff, black was the color. Another week or so and hopefully the water temp will be up so those big girls come in. It was still 38* yesterday, and ice chunks coming down from above. So its gonna be cold for a while yet.

Boaters use caution: There is an ongoing dredging project at Storm Lake and boats should stay at least 100 feet away from the dredge pipe. The dredge pipe is marked with buoys.

Anglers are still catching walleyes. Water temperature is in the low 70s. Daily bag limit at Storm Lake is 3 walleye: all 17 to 22-inch walleye must be immediately released and only one walleye over 22 inches may be kept. White Bass - Fair: Some white bass are being caught on white twisters or picked up while walleye fishing. Walleye - Good: Shore fishing for walleye has slowed down quite a bit. Many of the boat anglers have switched from trolling to drifting night crawler harnesses with a bottom bouncer. Target the old dredge area around Starr Park. The 15 to 16.5-inch fish have slowed down some, but anglers are still catching 13 to 14-inch walleyes.

Channel Catfish - Good: Boat anglers have been catching catfish averaging two pounds; try using cut bait, minnows or crawdads for bait. White Bass - Good: White bass are being caught on white twisters or picked up while walleye fishing. Try fishing white bass with top waters on hot, calm evenings. Anglers that find white bass chasing baitfish at the surface have been able to catch them every cast. Walleye - Slow: Try fishing the deep holes in the dredged areas and the rock piles in deeper water.

Small gizzard shad (2.5 to 3.5 inches) are abundant in the lake right now. Look for bait fish breaking the surface and cast for white bass there. Walleye - Slow: Try fishing the deep holes in the dredged areas and the rock piles in deeper water.

Water clarity is increasing daily and water temperature is in the mid to upper 60s. Channel Catfish - Slow: Catfishing is slowing down. Try using shrimp or stink bait. White Bass - Fair: One pound white bass are have been caught while fishing for walleye. Walleye - Good: Anglers have been doing fairly well for walleye near the inlet and on the east side of Storm Lake throwing mostly twisters and spinners. Fish near shore, north of the east boat ramp. Morning has been good in both locations. Late afternoon has been best on the east shore.

White Bass - Slow: Most of the white bass being caught are being picked up while walleye fishing. Walleye - Slow: Walleye fishing continues to be hit or miss. The bite seems to turn on for an hour or so at certain times of the morning and evening and then shut off. Most anglers have been targeting the inlet, and the east shoreline near the public boat ramp. Anglers have been using twisters and spinners and many are fishing at night. Ice thickness on Storm Lake is around 3 to 4 inches out in the main basin. Ice is 8 to 9 inches thick near the inlet where most of the fishing is taking place. Walleye - Good: Anglers are doing well for walleye near the inlet to the lake. A number of anglers have been catching their limit in a few hours or less. Try using a minnow and a bobber or a super duper and a minnow head. One angler reported that Macho Minnow super glo baited with a minnow half has been very effective. Daily bag limit at Storm Lake is three walleye: all 17 to 22-inch walleye must be immediately released, only one walleye over 22 inches may be kept.

Ice thickness on Storm Lake is around 3 to 4 inches out in the main basin with areas of open water. Ice is around 10 inches thick near the inlet where most of the fishing is taking place. White Bass - Good: Large white bass are being caught by anglers targeting walleye. There is fast action for the white bass when schools move through and then it slows down until another big school comes by. Crappie - Fair: Some nice sized crappie are being caught around the inlet area. Yellow Perch - Slow: Anglers pick up yellow perch on occasion when fishing walleye. Not a lot of perch get caught, but the ones that do are 9 to 11 inches. Walleye - Fair: Anglers are doing well for walleye near the inlet to the lake. A live minnow fished right off the bottom has been working well, or try using a super duper and a minnow head. One angler reported that Macho Minnow super glo baited with a minnow half has been very effective. Daily bag limit at Storm Lake is three walleye: all 17 to 22-inch walleye must be immediately released, only one walleye over 22 inches may be kept.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
