Vantage Motor w/ a tiller...Starboard or Port?

Benfishin

Question

Which side is favorable for mounting my Vantage? I've seen them on both sides. I'm leaning the port and will be doing lots of rear trolling and drifting. I'm just wondering if I have to be concerned about my line getting tangled in the motor at all? Any preference or suggestions before I order my wave wacker?

I've always put them on the starboard side because I can turn the seat sideways, view the electronics in front of me and without leaning forward to reach the trolling motor I can reach beside me and control the motor. My back begins to ache if I lean forward for any length of time.

Tiller or counsel boat? Where is your seat positioned in the back? Not that that is going to sway my advice but I'm just trying to justify at all why you'd consider putting it on the port side. I've seen them on that side and still can't figure it out, but to each his own with what they like. I run a Lund Pro V with a tiller motor. Vantage is on the starboard side and as stated above, sit sideways viewing my electronics/guages and very comfortably reach down to my Vantage handle. I strictly backtroll, drift (slip drift). In times that I pull plugs in the shallows and the water it calm, I turn my Vantage into a forward troller and actually use that to pull plugs.

Had to throw in an edit here quick as well. Dad just ordered up a Crestliner 1750 fish hawk with a tiller on it and the vantage is going on the starboard side and the Wave Wackers are ordered up.

Hey BenFishin -

Just gotta give you a shout of thanks for asking the exact same two questions (wiring and which side) I had as I just picked up a Vanatage from the sports show a couple weeks ago... good stuff!

Edit: I should mention, my brother-in-law says hands down starboard as well. (He claims 95% of all he's seen are starboard, I question the accuracy of that 'fact' :-)
