headlight issue

Recommended Posts

I have a 2006 Mazda 3.

The other day my drivers side head light went out. Figured no big deal, got the replacement bulb, swapped it out and figured all was good.

Problem was that the new bulb didn't work right away. I did some fiddling around, and ended up popping in the old bulb back in. Well then the headlight started working again with the old bulb. I then figured it must have been a loose connection.

This morning I went to drive to work, put on the headlights but this time the passenger side light was out. I got out of the car and hit it with the palm off my hand and the light popped back on.

Same thing happened again tonight, only this time the passenger side worked and the driver side was out. Hitting it with my hand again got it to pop back on.

I made sure the bulb was firmly connected on the drivers side as best as I could when I tired replacing bulbs the other day.

Any ideas what might be causing this?

If your smacking the lens assembly and they start working than the filament in the bulb was probably broken and the smacking was enough for it to reconnect and weld it self back together. Its entirely possibly the new new bulb was defective. Other than checking the connections to make sure they are not burnt up I don't know what else it could be.
