pumper317
Hello all,My dad and i are starting to look into a mule deer hunt for 2011, and i want to get some feedback on good location to go. we want to go to wyoming, so if anyone knows a good location to go for a DIY hunt, that would be great. Otherwise an area were there are nice mulies, good odds of drawing, and places to hunt would be much appreciated.
fireman
http://www.hotspotoutdoors.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/1926076/Packing_my_bags#Post1926076Here is a link to a post a few pages back. This deer was taken in Wy on a public land DIY hunt. The area we hunted took 4 years to get a tag with preference points. If you are looking at Wyoming, I would strongly suggest purchasing a preference point. For deer, its $40 and will increase your chances of getting a license. The application period for a point is July to Sept. Go to the Wy G&F HSOforum and search for the 2010 hunting guide. Alot of good information in there. It breaks down all big game species and shows trophy quality of an area, and public access in the area. Alot of the regions with very good draw odds have alot of private land, so access could be an issue, unless you have permission from a rancher in the area. Once you have a region in mind, contact the local Bio and Game Warden. They are a valuable resource, and the ones I have spoken with have been very helpful. pumper317
Thanks fireman,I actually found a 3000 acre chunnk of land in SD to hunt that has a good population of mulies. A little easier to draw and not quite so far. It is all about the people you meet in life...

fireman
Have fun in South Dakota. There are some nice bucks down there, both muley and whitetail. Have chased both around down there myself. If you have never hunted mule deer, you are in for a treat. Glassing up a nice buck and putting the stalk on him is 100% addicting. Good luck.
