building a small boat--school project

my son is is a senior and his spring term project he is doing is to build a boat that floats with paddles that can hold 2-3 people..maybe more like a raft...any suggestions on books or resources or designs that i can research? this thing has to be simple and i would imagine after the maiden voyage that would be it as far as life goes..maybe even kinda like a small duck boat...

I've seen a number of wooden duck boats made with plywood - and they were actually useful items! If you're not a duck hunter, I'll bet you could sell it and recoup the material costs anyway.

I have built wood boats with plywood. A good place to check online is Gator Boats. They have a bunch of different designs and are fairly straight forward to build. I have built their Gator model for duck hunting and it works great. I also plan to build their ducker someday. Good luck!
