Trailer fish tailing

Cheers

Question

Can someone please explain why my snowmobile fish tails at speeds above 50mph . I think it has to do with tong weight but not sure if I have to much or to little . Thinking of going to a larger trailer. Would that help ? I see lots of trailers on the freeways going fast, but mine would not last the first mile. I have a double wide 10 foot bed and haul 2 machines or 1 bike and a small atv trailer with a boat on top in the summer. Would a 12 foot deck help or can you get sway bars (if so what are they )?

THANKS

Sounds to me that there is too little tongue weight. Put more weight in front of the trailer to help minimize the swaying. Dot spec is 10% of total weight for tongue weight. Example: if you have a trailer weighing in at 3500#'s the tongue weight should be at 350#'s.

Before moving the axles, put a tube sand bag at the front of the trailer. If that stops or decreases the swaying you'll know you have to shift the load or move tha axle.

Another possibility is the height of the hitch on the tow vehicle. If the front end of the trailer is higher than the back it can cause swaying.

This may sound too simple, but it happened to me. Make sure you are using the right size ball for the hitch. I have interchangeables and once I left the 1 7/8 on with a 2" trailer. I couldn't figure out why it was fishtailing until I unhooked it. I got lucky that it didn't pop off.
