portable fish finders

anyone have good suggestions for portable fish finders to check out? I have been lugging an eagle around that works well but is a bit to bulky, and requires 8 D-cell batteries. It's just a little too much room and extra weight when I am in the BW or kayaking.

I have something just like it made by a different company that starts with a G, mine took 8 D cells as well. I purchased it a long time ago and mine was converted at purchase to a single rechargeable 12 volt battery. I don't think that even the clips had to be changed. If I remember correctly it was a matter of simply removing the battery tray and plugging in the new 12 volt. I don't think it will help a lot for weight, but it is definitely more efficient. I would also recommend using maps as much as possible and limiting battery use to find specific areas and then turn it off when it it not needed. If you do that you can extend battery life quite a bit.

Humminbird 345c

new for 2010 ~ runs on the same type rechargeable battery most portable icefishing flashers use.

I just got mine online through amazon for 275.00 free shipping & no tax. I used it for ice fishing a couple times and really liked it, I also plan to use it even more in summer. The battery lasted me the whole weekend when I was ice fishing and thats using it 12+ hours a day. It has a 3.5" color screen and dual band transducer.

The same battery that runs a vex or aqua vu works well in place of the 8 D cells. I have the old Eagle Classic Fish Finder. You don't have to change anything just lay the battery on its side with the + and - terminals at the top to reach the clips. WORKS very well and can run several long days before needing to be recharged.

I am wondering if some of the Fish Easy Eagle Screens fit on the old Eagle classic portable models. I could save some money and get an upgrade to the 320 or 480 model!
