a scuba diver or sucker!!

had a real interesting experience on the ice today, i was fishing in about 20ft of water and all of a sudden a big red blob popped up on the hummingbird and heading straight up, there were bubbles coming up the hole, as i sat and watched, i thought there was a diver out trying to screw with me, but finally this "thing" popped up in the hole, it turned out to be a rather large sucker looking up at me!! i picked it up out of the hole and laughed, turned to my dad and said, i wish fishing was this easy all the time!, now if only the walleye would start doin this! lol! i sent it back down the hole and it ket coming back up, has anyone ever seen this before?

How are the oxygen levels on your lake?

as far as i know, the o2 levels should be good, very clear lake with a vey good amount of green weeds, this lake is stocked annually with walleyes. i was fishing a mud/gravel transition area off the deeper weedline.

Haha, that's really funny! I was fishing crappies tonight over about 40 feet of water and marking plenty but not catching any. The next thing I know I look down at the hole with my tip-up (just so any pike come to eat a crappie I'm reeling up they might take a smelt instead) and I see a tiny crappie floating in it! Maybe this is a trend and the walleyes will start popping out of holes next!

That is really strange!! My heartbeat woulda picked up a bit if I woulda been in your shoes, seeing that blip rise on your flasher, and the bubbles coming up the hole....

deadhead, yes it was a white sucker, and one of the biggest that i have ever seen. a solid 27"!

27" is GIANT! that fish had potential to be a state record! i've seen one white sucker around that size in my life and it was an experience i'll never forget. i love those whites!

state record had entered my mind at one point, but the whole experience and bewilderment overshadowed that quickly.

I had a dogfish do the same thing to me about 5-6 years ago. It took a gulp of air, stared at me for about 5-10 seconds and then slowly just dropped back down the hole without even moving.

Dogfish I get...they come up into the spear hole all the time, but that is definitely odd behavior for a sucker. Maybe a sick fish?
