Auger Problem

motley man

Question

Had a older ICE MASTER auger given to me and trying to get it running. Will fire and run for few seconds and seems to flood out. Have screwed jet in and out with no difference. Any ideas for someone that knows little about small engines and don't want to spend more than it's worth to fix it.

You live in Motley? we'll be up in April if you dont have it working then I can help. How can I get ahold of you?

Heres carb settings for a Tecumseh engine,Factory which they recommend resetting in normal use temps,But to start it,open the idle setting (left larger head screw) 5/8s-3/4s turn, but thats after its gently screwed in and bottomed out.High speed right screw bottom it out gently then open 1 & 1/4 turns. After its running reset it out drilling in the cold temps. Some people say 1/8 to 1/4 turn when fine tuning DONT do that there touchy.Turn them 1/16--1/32 turn at a time run it see how it sounds.if it boggs out drilling open the hispeed 1/16 at a time till its working properly.

I don't know what carb you have there. Could have both low and high mixture screws or a low mixture and a fixed jet.

First thing is put a new spark plug in.

If it is flooding out(verify by checking the spark plug)turn the high speed mixture screw in. If you don't see any improvement then its time to take the carb apart and clean and rebuild kit. Your inlet valve (needle and seat) could have dirt that is keeping it from closing. Fuel level in the carb could be off as well. The lever which lifts and closes the needle in that inlet valve is attached to the lever. The other end of the level touches the center of a diaphragm. That end of the lever has to be flush with the floor of the carb body. To adjust you bend the tang on the lever, be careful not to damage the needle.
