Grayfox
Mitch and I went out early this morning to try a couple fox spots before we headed to the lake for a little ice fishing. 1st was a dud. 2nd set we set up along a gravel road with some thick pines to the South. Mitch was on my right about 10 yards away. I started the caller and looked to the left and back to the right and there he stood. Don't know how he got there so fast, within 10 yards, right on the edge of the trees. I hit the light when he ran back into the woods but he stopped 10 yards in and I dumped him. I kept the caller going for a few minutes and then turned the volume down. Thats when I here Mitch lip squeeking. I turned the caller on agian and I hear his gun bark. Female down and his first fox for the year, great set. We hit one more spot but saw nothing then headed home. Here he is with the two. muzzy
Great Job! What size shot are you using for the grays? I'm looking to trying out the fox thing for the first time this year and am using 3", #4 Magnum turkey load with an extra full choke. I would hope this would drop one at 30 yards or less? Also, not much of a selection in the area stores for coyote shot. Fleet only carries Dead Coyote in 3 1/2" so I bought a box of 2 3/4" T-Shot (HeviShot/Maximum Defense). Not sure if this is only for home defense or can be used for hunting? Either that or I have OO Buckshot but have heard that may be too large of shot? Also, do you aim for the head or vitals...or both? Any advice will be appreciated.
