Been a long time user and fan of Zone Alarm Free Addition.

However the recent update seems to be CPU intensive leaving me a very long wait for ZA to load. Tried the reset config and no improvement. Edited my start up menu and that didn't do a thing. Looking into processes at startup, there is ZA taking its time. Anyone else having the same slow and painful start ups using ZA?

Uninstalled ZA and am currently trying PC Tools.

I tried zone alarm once for about 1/2 hour and dumped it. Would rather use a good windows firewall AV, and a router/firewall combo. In other words I am not a fan of the third party software firewalls.

But most of the time once something like that loads and it is still dogging things, I would look at what it is sucking up as far as memory goes. Most tend to be memory hogs and if you are low on RAM, and have a AV and anti spyware running things are going to slow down dramatically.

I'm with upnorth. Dumped Zone Alarm shortly after installing. Too many issues with programs and I found it to be a CPU hog as well. Been just using the Windows firewall with absolutely no problems ever since.
