Do you prefer the Micro SD card or should I just purchase the downloadable maps? Does one method have an advantage over the other? Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

I talked to Garmin and the rep told me that you can download from the CD as many times as you want, but only to the original GPS device that you register the data to.

Also, that the downloadable version from their HSOforum is only available for 1 year after purchase...

I purchased the CD due to this fact, plus you can print out the maps from your PC.

Here it is folks just talked to Garmin, bare with me I probably will leave some stuff out but you will get the general synopsis.

The CD rom you get 2 security codes and each code operates a separate device. You can put both codes on one card so that card operates 2 devices or create 2 cards with each card with its own security code to operate a single device.

You can create as many map cards as you want at any time for that particular device the security code belongs to. Lose the card you can make a new one.

You can up load to as many computers you want from the CDrom but it still will only create maps for those 2 devices you unlocked it for. You can create as many maps as you want. Your computer crashes you can up load it to another computer.

The card size to get all the maps on it must be minimum of 256mb

The benefits of the CDrom over the pre programmed card is you can view the lakes on your computer and create a rout or waypoints then transfer them to the unit.

The draw back is you can only use them in 2 units whereas the preprogrammed card you can go to any unit that excepts mapping capabilities.

Ok now for how to transfer the info to a card or 2 separate cards I got confused on how to do it. I'm more of a hands on type person when it comes to figureing things out.

To cap it off there are no limitations to the CDrom except for only can be used for 2 devices.

Just thought I would help in verifying that's why for the post above.

Also for buying the program off their sight like you say there are limitations. Besides the one year thing you need to download onto a 2gb card not the 256 card that the CD rom uses.

Another thing is if downloading to a Cs model (x stands for expandable memory where s stands for sensor)with is internal memory with out the option of expandable memory most Cs models only let you down load 115 mg to the unit essential forcing you to down load certain lakes or areas. Though some models do have enough internal memory for the full data transfer check the specs of the unit to see how much info can be up loaded.

Go Back one page I kinda gave a bit of a low down between the 2.

One thing I didnt ask, thing to keep in mind, is if you need the cd to create a new card, I assume you would, as for creating maps, opening maps and printing them with out the cd I dont know probably not if your viewing maps or transfering waypoints to the device as for printing you might need the CD.

I knew I would forget to ask something. Best way to find out buy the Cdrom or call Garmin.
