Yamaha speedomoter problems

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased a 2001 Crestliner with a 90 horse Yamaha. After about 2 times on the water, the speedomoter quit working. The wiring looks good and all, but I'm wondering if something could be clogged or gunked-up where it takes the reding by the motor. Where is this and has anyone ever had a similar problem that they have fixed.
Any help will be greatly apreciated.
Thanks

I have a 2001 Yamaha 115 four stroke and it has a differential pressure-based speedometer that measures the force of water on an intake port on the front of the motor below the cavitation plate. The hole is very small and is on the centerline of the motor. Mine has clogged with ice, leaves, dirt, etc. on several occasions. There is a hollow hose that connects from this port on the motor all the way to the dash-mounted speedo. Once you locate the pressure port, its easy to clean out with a piece of wire, paper clip, etc.
