Rainy Lake trip at Woody's

This past weekend I got to go on my first fishing trip of the season. I went with a good friend of mine (Dan), and my 12 year old son (Travis). We went to Rainy Lake, and stayed at Woody's Resort , and we stayed in the Spruce room. These are some very nice rooms, it was more then enough room for us 3, we could have slept up to 8 people in our room alone.

This was our first trip to Rainy Lake, so I was somewhat expected to be fishing blind, but it wasnt the case at all. Woody being a guide, also rents day houses on Rainy Lake, he gave me good directions on where to go, and pointed out where he had his ice houses set up. Woody even went out of his way to show some of his spots he would be guiding on later for us to try.

Our first day out was rather tough, it was to cold for much moving around, (-25) so we only moved a few times. We ended up with a few fish each, but no big ones. That night we came in and met with Woody, he pointed us out to a good pike spot, and a good day time walleye spot. We sat and B.S'ed with him for awhile, and met his brother Spike. These are some good people!

While we were there, Woody gave us a lake map to use, with directions to a good bite, he let us use some quick strikes, as we didnt bring any, and he let us use a gaf, incase the trophy came up the hole. I would have to say he went far and above what any resort owner has ever done for me in the past. So I would like to give him my thanks by giving all a good recommendation to a great experience, and to anyone looking for a good place to stay to catch some fish, or to have a great guide show you around, and give you the tricks of the lake, contact Woody summer or winter at 1-866-410-5001 or check out his HSOforum Woody's .

He also has 2 cabins on an island, where you can rent the entire island to yourself. This is something that I plan on doing this summer, I hope! I also plan on coming back up in about a month, to try for some big pike.

I just made reservations to go up again in March with the wife, I am hoping to get her onto some big pike. She has never caught a big pike, and I think if she pulled one up through the ice, it will end up being an annual trip. Which just means, it is one more trip a year for me grin

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
