Underwater Camera Repair - Advise?

New2TheFly

Question

Hey guys

I've got a 4 year old Marcum underwater camera that recently took a turn on me. The power to the camera will flicker on/off when wiggling the cable near the camera, making the unit unusable. I contacted Marcum and was told they do not work on cameras because they cannot be disassembled (gas inside camera?)

Has anyone ever ran into this issue and attempted to repair the cable wiring? The problem appears to be so close to the camera that I'm afraid I might be sol. I might as well TRY to fix it though. Any advise?

Thanks

Brian

Was reading a post a couple weeks ago think they talking about Marcum. It said they were having trouble with the cameras leaking water. If you have that problem also maybe you could get it recalled that way. Not for sure if they were leaking around the cord or elsewhere on the camera. Maybe someone else remembers this better. Good luck

The camera on my 3 year old MarCum also leaked. I went to their HQ in New Hope for repair and was told this camera is obsolete. He checked around and found the last new camera they had. I was told if it happens again they would give me credit towards a new model. Seems fair to me!

UberDone - Did MarCum just hook you up with a camera? I was also told they would give me credit towards a new model. He then went on to say they have replacement cameras for $75!! For that price I might as well go buy a new unit

My Aqua-Vu was having problems so I sent it in to Nature Vision. They identified the problem right away but they said it would cost more to have it fixed than to but an new one. They gave me new camera for $75.

How long ago was it that they said they would give you credit towards a new camera? I bet this was when Nature vision owned them? I heard that also last year but didn't take them up on it. My camera leaks also but it is discontinuted...It would be nice to get trade in $$ (so to speak) towards a new marcum.

I would say you have a wiring problem. When you twist the cable it will make contact and when you release it, it will go open again. You could open the housing and maybe fix the problem. but I think getting it sealed right again would be hard to do. You would also have to fill it with dry Nitrogen to keep it from fogging up on you.
