Recommendation for good digital camera in low light conditions

Recommended Posts

Hi. I am looking for a digital camera for low light situations to take pics of both my son and daughter at swim meets.

I also want something use friendly and not too complicated. I have done a little research and have read that the Nikon D5000 is a pretty good camera for this situation and overall ease of use.

Its basically the model that Ashton Kuchar is promoting on the TV ads.

I can get a decent set up at a few of the standard area places for around 800.00 with a couple of lenses. One wide angle and one "telephoto". So, that is the price range I would like to stay in.

Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks

Hoffer

Indoor lens information

After sifting through some of the information go ahead and ask more specific questions. I will just tell you up front to shoot swimming indoors (especially the Maple Grove Jr. high pool) you will need a camera that is capable of shooting at high ISO and lenses that will be considerably more expensive than the $800 budget you have. The telephoto you will get in your "kit" will be inadequate for indoor work.

There is no cheap solution to indoor sports work unfortunately. Better to understand that up front than to find out what you bought isn't going to get you the results you hoped for.
