Chip for hds5

honkerhunter64

Question

Ok guys, I have a Lowrance HDS5 that I can move from my boat, to my wheeler or truck, for ice fishing. I have ram mounts on each. I do 90% of my fishing in Norhtern WI. If you were going to buy one chip for this unit, and price is not an issue, what would it be and why?

You will have to see wich chip company offers you the most of the lakes you fish in the best detail. I live in Superior and have to run Navionics on most area lakes and the St. Louis River. lakemaster just updated their chip for the river but didnt do much for inland lakes around here. Thats how they keep you buying new chips I guess.

I have been told that the HDS units don't work in the winter because the screen needs to be heated. I bought a Marcum 820 underwater camera and it has an LCD screen and the tout the fact that it's heated and will work in the cold. Might want to check that out before you spend a lot of time/effort for ice fishing with it. The thing is fantastic and I would have loved to be able to use it on the ice. Mine ended up being pretty much permanently mounted on the boat because the console had to be modified quite a bit.
