I am just wondering what those of you that have hummingbird 55 what do you set your gain on to see the bottom and still see your jig?

I have one but it seem like I have to change the gain depends on the bottom. Is this common?

Does dept matter on where you will set your gain?

Any help would be greatly apprciated

I just returned my ice 35 and got another to try it out. I was having what I think transducer issues having to turn my gain up to see my jig. The 35 has no digital read out, but I have to push it over 50% to see my minnow tipped jig in 14FOW. My buddy has his vex unit is hardly using any gain at all to see his jig. IDK, If this is the way its supposed to be, then so be it, but it worries me that i have another deffective unit. 14FOW seems like nothing and with a jig tipped with minnow.... On the other hand it really shows the fish well, and seems to give a better indication of the size of fish. For example, I have been catching large northers lately and they show up as a red line, outlined by yellow which is then outlined by green. I thought this was great, and I do not have any interence with other vex units.

I really like many of the features and it works well when the gain is set high enough, but I just dont have confidence in them yet. Anyway, the fish were biting well today.

good fishing,
