Lowrance M68c

Question

Hello all,

I own a Lowrance M68c. This is my second season using it. When I am fishing solo with this unit it is remarkable. My only issue, while solo fishing is that I cannot add more detailed maps on the GPS. Apparently what you get is what you'll have according to Lowrance for maps on this particular unit. I can live with it, apparenlty the sales person didn't know this when I told him that I plan on geting the lake chip for it soon.

Anyway, my concerns with it come into play when my buddy joins me and drops his Marcom transducer in the water. All hell breaks loose. My depth goes from stable to bouncing all over the place. I start picking up all sorts of random hits. I know that mine affects his a little, but he is able to rid the interference with a quick adjustment. The Lowrance on the other hand does not seem to be able to filter other units or at least a Marom. If he shuts his off after mine went nuts it does not clear up until I remove the transducer from the water and put it back in. This is frustrating! I have not used mine next to any other unit. I was given a few tips like lowering or raising my transducer some while tweaking the ping speed. I have of course already attempted using the noise rejection settings but at max the unit is still unusable.

I hoping that someone may have the same unit with similar issues or with another Lowrance unit that acts the same. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Be sure to set your interference rejection to high, and you can also change your surface clutter setting. These options are under menu>sonar features or something like that.

That should work. Do a search for older threads too, there is a really great one about interference settings for the Lowrance ice machines.

Bump!

Any other ideas? I know he has tried setting the IR on high, but to no avail.

When he says it goes completely out of whack he isn't exaggerating. The entire screen goes crazy and starts reading depths of 300' deep as soon as my Marcum is turned on.

Also, any idea where the old threads are on the ice machine interference issue? I did some searching but didn't find anything older than a week or so.

Thanks Chode,

I have found a good thread with some tips that I have yet to try. I am no sonar tech but I am at least a little savy with electronics and I cannot see working the ping speed along with adjusting the depth of the transducer will clear this mess up. I will try all tips given to me and reply after attempting. I have attempted all of the programmed interference control settings on the unit, now its time to get a little crazy and try some of these other things. I will be in Brainerd Saturday for the Tourney so I should have plenty of interference to work with.

I have troubles with my buddies LX-5, but I can get it to at least be readable. I have never had troubles clearing out an LX-3 or any Vexilar (in fact most of the time it is the opposite).

You should be able to get it taken care of, maybe not perfect but at least usable. Maybe move a bit further apart. A foot can make all the difference sometimes.

Well after this weekend I have decided to give up on trying to use my unit with other near by units. I was at the tourney up in Brainerd on Saturday. At the start of the tournament I turned mine on and saw nothing but black. I adjustd the sensitivity to clear it up, but I then could not see my lure. Somewhat understandable considering how many people were there, but my buddy was sitting ten feet away with his Marcom which was working fine. I was able to a good depth reading at least.

We then went to a differnnt place later in the day and sat in a portable. No way I could even get the M68 to even read the depth while his was running just a few feet from mine. I give up. I normally fish alone and never have problems. I guess that I can live with it.
