Day trip for the elusive Wally

Hey guys,

If you lived in Stillwater, and were on a limited budget, where would you go for a day trip to chase some good walleye action? I'd like to spend more time fishing than driving to the lake, but would also like to have a pretty good shot at actually getting fish. I don't have a snowmobile or ATV, but have a 4WD Jeep.

Thanks for any suggestions!

From all the reports I've seen from the river, it looks like the walleye are pretty few and far between so far this season. I live just two blocks from the river, and will be heading out there plenty throughout the rest of the season. Looking for more of a trip.

Anyone have any suggestions for something a little farther away? I will head to both the St. Croix and White Bear many times before the season is out, but some of the lakes that I would not be able to reach in the summertime without a boat intrigue me. Just not sure where to start. I went to LOW earlier this winter, and am looking for something about half as far. Thanks guys!
